Habitat for Humanity - Covenant Church
UUCA is a Covenant Church with Habitat for Humanity International, supporting Habitat's goal to eliminate poverty housing throughout the world and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. The church carries out its covenant responsibilities through meditation and prayer, financial support, organizing work parties, and sponsoring the building of homes.
House and home are as common to every person's experience as are the air we breath or the ground we walk. "Home is where you hang your hat." "There's no place like home." "Home sweet home." Home conjures up a place, perhaps a house, but of course home is often more than a house, a building. Scot Russell Sanders distinguishes between the two saying: "However leaky or firm, whether tar paper or brick, the shell of a house gives only shelter; a home gives sanctuary." Fred Muir, Pastor - Sermon 1998
The Cornish Hatch Home 2007
After a two-year start-and-stop campaign, we finally broke ground for this home in January 2007-A home for Dana Cornish and her daughter, Erika; Dana’s sister, Ladonya Carter, and her three daughters, LaNesha, LaKira, and LaNaya; and their mother, Hilda Hatch. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with the family and with Annapolis Friends Meeting, Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, and St. Bernadette Parish Roman Catholic Church, we completed the project and celebrated the Dedication and Presentation of the Key on April 14, 2007. This home also included several "green" features, such as 2" X 6" exterior walls for extra insulation, high R-value windows, Energy Star appliances, and recycled deck materials. In addition to the hundreds of volunteer hours we provided, we also contributed $21,000 toward the build.
The Adrianzen Home 2003
On July 26, 2003, we dedicated the Habitat home of Christy Adrianzen and her son. We began work in March and raised $14,000 in sponsorship funding while building the home. Our partners were the United Church of Christ of Annapolis, the Curtis Foundation, and the Allegis Group, Inc.

The Karan Home 2000
In April 2000, ground was broken for the Hope Rising project, a seven-unit townhome-build in Annapolis, MD. UUCA was a partner in the sponsorship of one of those townhomes, to house the Karan family--Slavko, Sima, and their daughter, Slavica--a refugee family from Bosnia-Herzegovina. The other partners for this home were the Indian Creek School, the Heritage Baptist Church, and the Curtis Foundation. The first four Hope Rising homes, including ours, were dedicated on September 30, 2000.

The Elliott Home 1998

Also, Eileen Hagan, the Elliott family Habitat sponsor
In August 1998, we dedicated the Habitat home of Ms. Beth Elliott and her three sons, Joshua, James, and Joseph, in Severn, Maryland. We had been working on the home since its groundbreaking in April. The UUCA co-sponsored this project with the St. Philips Episcopal Church, the Curtis Foundation, Arundel Habitat for Humanity, and the Elliott family. These partners were responsible for raising the $36,000 funding, providing work crews for the construction, and feeding the volunteers each Saturday.
