Where do we come from?

Fifty-four years ago, an intrepid group of truth seekers, numbering no more than 30, made a commitment to their future. Those people started from the ground up, meeting at St. John's College, at an elementary school, and in other small rented spaces. They stepped up to the plate and made a commitment to the future of their faith community when several of them personally co-signed the mortgage to the new building. They gave generously to support what is today known as the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. We, the current members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, owe those pioneers a debt of gratitude, and now it's our turn to commit to the future.

What are we?

We are a vibrant, loving, energetic community of over 500 members, and many more friends and visitors. We are diverse in age, race, ethnicity, ability, gender, and sexual orientation. We are a Welcoming Congregation, we are a supportive space. We have outreach to numerous community organizations, and we feed each other spiritually through worship and religious exploration and faith development.

However, our space is confining us. We are bursting at the seams, or more accurately, our seams are bursting because there are so many of us.  Rev. Muir reminds us that each month UUCA touches 1,000 souls.   Clearly, the need is there to grow and expand.

- Did you know?

  • The roof and outer wall under the front entrance leak
  • Our restrooms are inadequate for average church attendance

Our sanctuary was designed for 200; today our membership exceeds 500 members.

Now, it's our turn to commit to the future. à Click Here for 9 Imaginative Ways to Give More

Where are we going?

This is the beginning of what will be a very active time, one in which your participation from the start will help insure our Capital Campaign's success.  Here's what's ahead:

  • Discussion/Informational meetings with the congregation beginning in June 2010 and continuing through the Fall 2010
  • Based on congregational recommendations and a follow-up feasibility study by Mr. Rickard  the Building Committee will explore adjustments to the proposed architectural plans
  • The Building Campaign Committee will be meeting every three weeks to plan for upcoming Combined Building/2011Operating Budget Campaign, which will begin in October
  • In 2011 we hope to begin the first phase of the building and infrastructure plan

IMAGINE - the difference it would make to the capital campaign if you could pledge two, three or more times as much as you had been thinking. With proper estate and financial planning, you may be able to leverage your pledge way beyond the actual cost to you.
